Sheila Taormina is a former American competitive swimmer and triathlete who has competed at the highest levels of both sports. Born on April 9, 1969, in Livonia, Michigan, Taormina began swimming at a young age and went on to compete in the 1996, 2000, and 2004 Summer Olympics as a swimmer.
After retiring from professional swimming, Taormina transitioned to triathlon and became a highly successful triathlete, winning multiple national and world championships in the sport. She was the first woman to qualify for the Olympics in three different sports - swimming, triathlon, and modern pentathlon.
